Most wedding planners have package deals that you can purchase. A package deal can mean that the wedding planner will assist with the entire wedding planner and coordination or assist with planning and coordinating the ceremony only, assist with planning and coordination the reception only.
Some wedding planners will go even more extensive and assist with planning only and someone else will do the "day of the wedding" coordination, however most wedding planners would rather be there the day of to see their hard work come to fruition and to ensure everything goes as planned. And yet there are some wedding planners that will just show up on the day of the wedding and assist with the coordination.
For the wedding that I attended last month, I am not sure of the extent that the bride and groom hired this wedding planner to do. And let me say this is was the very first wedding that I have been involved in that the groom was so HEAVILY involved!
It was the night before the wedding and we are at the church rehearsing and this wedding planner knew NOTHING about the bride and groom's expectation for their wedding ceremony, which I thought was very odd. Even if she was hired to do the day of the wedding coordination you have know (or I would expect) you to know in advance the expectations of the ceremony.
Because she didn't know in advance this caused the rehearsal to be VERY LONG and tiring! Had she found out in advance, when it came to rehearsal time it would have went a lot easier, instead we have these long drawn out discussions about expectations and who is doing what. I felt sorry for the bride because it was the night before her wedding and this wedding rehearsal was tiring!!
I wanted to really help so bad but it was long and my ankle is still healing, which meant because I was walking on it for so long it was now SWOLLEN until I was uncomfortable and knew I had to get home and ice and elevate it!
I understand when you are in business you do what you are hired to do, but unfortunately when you are a wedding planner people are looking at you and although you are doing what you are hired to do, the people who are watching don't know that and it looks like you are incompetent.
For me the BEST way to handle this is to ALWAYS over deliver! Do a lot more than you are required to do. Go over and beyond your client expectations and this way you can charge accordingly. Don't have aggressive price and do mediocre work. There were so many people kept saying "what kind rd upon with the wedding planner, bride and the groom. However to me it was obvious find out in advance what you have to do, so that you are not wasting time.
This is one of the reason I created the Wedding Planning Guide, it is a detailed guide that covers every aspect of the wedding with a complete checklist and charts.
